The Perfumery

Perfume by Nature is a private Perfume house, based on the sunny Central Coast of Australia, two hours outside of Sydney. The fresh sea air, clean beaches and surrounding national Forests provide a never ending inspiration, as well as a number of the herbs that go into our potions. Our house Perfumer, Ambrosia, has spent a lifetime researching the origins and practice of perfumery, along with traditional European herb use and modern Aromatherapy. Her approach to Perfumery provides a unique blend of the aromatic arts and Healing, creating Perfumes that work on many different levels to heal and enchant mind body and soul....

 

"I’ve always loved smells....and as a child would spend hours making “potions” out of crushed rose petals and pine needles from my mother’s garden...it used to fascinate me how the scents would change as the leaves soaked in water over days and weeks, and how warm days made flowers smell deeper and more intense than cool misty days did....As a teenager I started collecting perfumes. Exotic little bottles of Indian perfume oils with mysterious names, 4711 from the chemist and I would spend hours in the expensively lit perfume house in the middle of the city, sniffing the exciting and colourful bottles of the hundreds and hundreds of brand name perfumes...deep exotic and exciting scents, and ever changing kaleidoscope of different smells and fragrant concoctions. Then in my early twenties I discovered Essential oils.... And my true calling. I had finally found scents that took me back to my olfactory adventures as a child. Here, in bottles, were my old friends: The deep green needles from the old pine tree...the unbelievably soft and happy joy of the crushed rose petals from my mother’s favourite bush...all the scents of my mother’s magical garden and so many more! Over the next decades, I travelled all over the world, researching perfume traditions and herbal ingredients everywhere I went. I collected ancient perfume and incense recipes, along with quaint and fascinating glass bottles. And when I finally settled here in Australia, I started to experiment with the fascinating ingredients and recipes I had collected over the years....and was soon getting requests from friends and family for my perfume creations. Business grew by word of mouth and took over more and more of our home and life, till eventually the whole family was involved in its running."
